New Age Philosophy

The term New Age refers to a wide variety of spiritual practices which serve to replace the notion of a restored relationship with God through a personal relationship through Jesus Christ. The New Age promotes the seeking of the higher self as God rather than obeying the one true creator of the universe. A typical New Ager feels that we are all God and simply need to advance to realize this. This entire movement is diametrically opposed to the God of the Bible. Scripture clearly states that God strictly forbids such practices. Observe the following scriptures:

Leviticus 19:31 (NKJV)

Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.

Deuteronomy 18:10-12 (NKJV)

There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11 or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. 12 For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord.

Leviticus 20:6 (NKJV)

And the person who turns to mediums and familiar spirits, to prostitute himself with them, I will set My face against that person and cut him off from his people.

You may recognize these common spiritual practices we commomly call psychic readings, contacting dead relatives through mediums, witchcraft, fortune tellers, palm readers, card readers, astrologers, among many others. These things put you in contact with a spirit world you have virtually no understanding of. There is a good reason God forbids these things and that is because they open a spiritual doorway into your life. Many people believe they are in charge and have control of these doorways when in reality they are being deceived and are affected in ways they do not comprehend. Joe Fisher wrote an unbiased account of trying to confirm spirit communications through mediumship of which he was a firm believer. The book is titled "The Siren Call of Hungry Ghosts", and it leads the author to conclude that spirits channelled through mediums and psychics are not who they claim to be.

This topic is far to vast to cover here and can be easily researched over the Internet. It is mentioned here because as with ghost hunting and paranormal investigation, these practices can bring unwanted and unexpected spiritual intrusions into your life. You may not realize that New Age practices can be the cause of paranormal activity in your life. The answer to removing the effects of New Age practice is to stop using these practices for good (repent), ask God to forgive you for practising them, and use the authority of the name of Jesus to stop the unwanted spiritual activity in your life. An excellent explanation as to why the New Age practice is so popular can be found in the book entitled The Latent Power Of The Soul by Watchman Nee. This is a free 47 page PDF download and a must read for anyone interested in the spiritual implications of dabbling in New Age practices.
